Backend and architecture
PHP 8, Node.js, TypeScript, Java and Python, with Symfony or Laravel where it fits and custom frameworks where it must. Data models, domain logic, queues, caching with OPCache and code that is still readable in five years.

I am Youri van Hogeloon, born and raised in Brabant and a full-stack developer who has been building software used by real people every day for more than ten years. Online you know me as Ven0mFrost: the alias under which I share my own tools and projects and can be found on Twitch.
My work ranges from strictly typed backends in PHP 8, Node.js and TypeScript to interfaces that feel like they have always been there. I design data models, write APIs, build admin panels and make sure the whole thing runs securely, fast and maintainably in production. Preferably all at once, because the best products are born right on the border between those disciplines.
The name Ven0mFrost is no coincidence. Venom stands for the sharpness and the bite in what I build: code that does what it promises, without ballast. Frost stands for the calm: keeping cool when production beeps, and architecture that is still stable and clear five years from now. The zero instead of the o? That one is for the nerds among us. And like the TARDIS, this site is bigger on the inside than it looks: just press Ctrl+K.
Since 2017 I have been the technical half of CherryChapter, the web and design agency I run together with Sjerisa. She is the graphic designer and does the design: websites, web shops, logos and brand identities. I am the programmer and write all the code that is needed for it, as efficiently as possible: from WordPress and WooCommerce sites to custom integrations, hosting, security and the SEO tooling we developed ourselves. Every project is unique, so we like to spar about the idea first. Under the same flag I develop StreamTools, the Dutch platform for donations, alerts and overlays.
I also build my own tools such as Quizzly, the realtime Twitch quiz, and I am the tech guy behind content creator RosesOverrated, my wife. I help her with all the technology around her channel and build the widgets her community sees: the StreamSchema, the on-stream widgets and elements such as the timer, Rozenburg and more.
At GameChangers Nederland, a group of friends and Twitch Partner who go live for days every year for charity, I have been the tech guy since 2024. I built the custom platform for the donations and everything that appears on screen during the stream: counters, alerts, widgets and integrations. I leave the design to the creatives, I make sure it works. All year round I help out on a voluntary basis in between, and every year around February I am behind the controls from Friday through Sunday.
It started the way it does for many developers: with a computer that would not do what I wanted and the stubbornness to fix that myself. What followed were years of building websites, setting up servers, writing plugins and designing ever larger systems. Every project taught me something new, every incident in production made me a stricter engineer.
Today I combine that experience with a down-to-earth view. I would rather write a well-founded answer than a nice story, I consciously pick the right technology per project and I say honestly when something can be simpler, cheaper or is simply not needed. Big enough to build everything myself, small enough to know you by your first name.
Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited, imagination embraces the entire world.
// What I can do
Over ten years of building, breaking and rebuilding, and still eager to learn every day: right now I am learning C# and diving into Linux servers.
PHP 8, Node.js, TypeScript, Java and Python, with Symfony or Laravel where it fits and custom frameworks where it must. Data models, domain logic, queues, caching with OPCache and code that is still readable in five years.
REST APIs, OAuth integrations and webhooks with Twitch, Mollie, Microsoft 365 and accounting platforms. Idempotent, documented and resistant to the whims of external parties.
Websockets, live dashboards, notifications, chatbots and widgets that stay up under peak load, from internal tooling to livestreams with thousands of viewers. Built and tested under real pressure.
Fast, accessible interfaces in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with Vue or React where a framework fits and Vite where a build is needed. Responsive from the first line, without ballast where it is not needed.
MySQL and PostgreSQL: design, indexes, migrations and queries that keep performing as the tables grow. Plus reports and exports that make your accountant happy.
CSP, HSTS, Argon2id, 2FA, rate limiting and allowlist sanitizers as standard. On top of that I manage the servers myself, with most of my experience on Windows Server: web servers, DNS and SSL, Docker, monitoring and backups, so a launch stays boring.
// Beyond the keyboard
A bit personal, not too much. This is where the energy that ends up in my code comes from, and why that code also gets written after working hours.
Programming is not only my work, it is also my hobby. I genuinely enjoy writing new code, improving existing code, fixing bugs and troubleshooting until I know exactly why something did what it did. On Twitch you can find me as ven0mfrost, where I prefer to test my own tooling live.
At GameChangers Nederland, Twitch Partner and a group of friends, I am the tech guy: the donation platform, the integrations and everything that appears on screen was built by me. All year round I help out in between, and around February I spend a whole weekend behind the controls.
Not a real gamer, although I can get quite lost in a game with a good storyline. I would rather watch series and films: science fiction, action and horror, with Marvel, DC, Doctor Who and Back to the Future as firm favourites. Anyone who grows up with stories about systems that become just a bit too clever naturally builds software with an off switch that actually works. And no, I do not blink.
Setting up servers, optimising networks, expanding a streaming setup or giving an old machine a new life: if it has a plug, I want to know how it works and how it can be better.
Simplicity is prerequisite for reliability.
// My DNA
Five principles that return in every line of code. No posters on the wall, but daily practice.
I build as if it were my own product. Because it often is. Everything I release runs with real users and I stand behind it.
Clear agreements, clear prices and honest communication about what is and is not possible. No small print, but a changelog.
Security, performance and maintainability are not extras but the standard. Every line of code has a fixed place and a reason.
Playing with new techniques keeps me sharp. But what goes to production is proven, tested and understood.
I do not build for the sake of building. Every feature has to solve a problem, otherwise I take it out. Less code is less maintenance.
Talk is cheap. Show me the code.
// Work together
I work on a project basis, as a permanent technical partner or as a second pair of eyes on an existing codebase. A new platform from idea to go-live, an API or integration that needs building, an automation that saves you hours, realtime tooling for your community or an audit of security and architecture: send me a message with what you have in mind and I will tell you honestly how I would approach it, what it costs and when it can be done.
Whether you are looking for a developer for a new platform, a second pair of eyes on your codebase or a permanent technical partner: I would love to hear what you are working on.
